Ramsay's technique was exceptional and the paintings have a real naturalism and immediacy. The most famous one (I'd say) is of the philisopher David Hume, you can see it online here.
Its incredible that although these paintings were done almost 300 years ago (Ramsay was born in 1711) they still possess an amazing freshness of colour. We also should remember these were done from life, in the times before photography.
The exhibition is on until the 5th January 2014. Lots of time to see but remember, its the only time you may get to see all these paintings together!
There's lots of interesting exhibitions on at the moment, Peter Doig and Kate Downie at the Royal Scottish Academy in Edinburgh are also well worth visiting. More on those later.
